The judges will be looking for a delicate crumb topped with icing or a glaze and a decorative element. This should feel like the perfect piece of cake to have with your morning cup of coffee."

Paul Hollywood: "Cake making is one of the basics of baking across the world. And this is why cake making is chosen as the first theme in the tent."

Prue Leith: "I think for us, judging it, the flavor is going to be really important, because that's what's going to distinguish a boring cake or a perfectly nice cake from a really wonderful one."
