Prep. Time:
30 mins
Baking Time:
10 mins
Serves:
12 samosas
Ingredients
Dough:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup semolina flour
7 gm SAF Instant Gold Yeast
0.5 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon caster sugar
Salt
0.25 cups Olive Oil
0.75 cups milk
Filling:
0.5 cup poppy seeds
0.5 cup almond milk
0.5 cup caster sugar
1 tablespoon orange juice
2 teaspoons orange zest
¼ teaspoon salt
Syrup:
1 cup caster sugar
0.5 cup water
1 teaspoon orange juice
2 tablespoons orange zest
Instructions
For the syrup:
Mix together sugar and water and heat gently until the sugar is completely dissolved. Heat over a low heat for 5 minutes and then stir in the orange juice.
For the dough:
Mix all the sifted dough ingredients to form a dough. Set aside in a warm room to prove for 45 minutes.
Divide into 12 even pieces and roll each one out as thinly as you can to form squares.
For the filling:
Grind the poppy seeds with a coffee grinder.
Place all the filling ingredients into a small pan and bring to a boil on medium heat. Turn down to medium low to maintain a low boil. Let it cook for 10 - 15 minutes until it begins to thicken (note - it will continue to thicken as it cools). Taste and season with salt or orange as required.
Put the filling into the 12 squares and fold and seal them into triangles.
Deep fry the samosas and when golden brown, drop them into the sugar syrup, bring out, roll in orange zest and serve.
