"Build a Better Burger" competition

Last Friday I took part in Sutter Home's "Build a Better Burger" competition, in the semi-final cookoff in Seattle. My dish was a 'Shepherd's Pie Burger'. You can find the recipe here.

On the day, there was a better burger than mine - many congratulations to Donna for her Nacho Burger, but only one of us could win, and the event itself was enormous fun.

The real challenge, for me, was trying to pack my recipe into one hour. The rules were that nothing could be pre-prepared, so I needed to cook, mash, chill and coat some balls of creamy, smooth, buttery mashed potato before making them the heart of a tangy lamb burger, seasoned with Worcestershire Sauce and balsamic vinegar, and marbled with finely diced carrots, garlic and red onion.

Try the dish for yourself. It's enormous fun to make and (thanks to all the friends who acted as tasters for me) - it seems to be a winner on the taste buds.
